AN ENGAGING STUDENT-PACED APP

Hey, there!

Have you ever wondered how to engage your students in your classes?

Nowadays there are a number of apps that can help us teachers bring some fun to our classes and even to our assessments! One of my favorite apps is called Quizziz.

In this blog I'm going to give you an overview of the things that are possible with a general (free) account and teach you how to create such account in Quizizz.

First, why is Quizizz so especial?

The magic of this app is that  you can access to it from any device (from either a browser or by downloading the app); students DO NOT NEED to register to be answer a quiz (so if you just one to use it once in a while, you won't need to worry about your students sharing sentitive data); and more importantly, it is STUDENT-PACED. What do I mean by this? Well, just as the term states, it is an app in which students can complete the assignments at their own pace. Unlike other similar apps, such as Kahoot, in Quizizz the teacher can decide whether the quiz is going to be live (and so teacher-paced) or student-paced (students can complete it at different times, without the teacher hosting/presenting the prompts).
To add up to its magic, this app has some interesting features that grabs students' attention ranging from the youngest to the oldest. Quizziz allows you to add memes (images with funny content like a joke, a pun, or just a funny picture), to add background music, and to enhance a healthy competitiveness, to name a few.

Second, so what else can I do in Quizizz?

There is number of things a teacher can do with this app. The easiest thing you can do is probably using someone else's production. You can search for a pre-made quiz that matches your needs and share it with your students.
Now, if you are up for the challenge, you can modify a quiz, create it or create a lesson!
The main aim of the app is assessing students, so teachers can see and monitor their students' performance. Teachers can see how the whole class or an individual student did in the questionnaire, or how they did question by question, being able to visualize not only whether they answered correctly or not, but also how much time it took them to answer each question. Moreover, teachers have access to their students' progress from each quizz and class, for which they can monitor their progress, and also  update students' parents/tutors on said progress.

Third, OK. It sounds interesting, so how can I create an account?

If you find it as interesting (or just a worth trying), you surely wonder how to start a free account. I will list some steps, if you follow them correctly, you will have created an account by the end of it!
  • To create an account in Quizizz, you have to open a web browser, like Google Chrome, and type https://quizizz.com/ in the address bar. Click on “enter”.
  • You will see in the top right corner a white button that reads in purple “sign up”. If you click on it, three options will appear: “continue with Google”, “continue with Microsoft” and “sign up with email”.
    • If you click on any of the first two options (continue with Google or Microsoft), Quizizz will auto fill some information, so you would only have to provide a password and click on “next” for your account to be ready. If you chose this option, you already created an free account! Congratulations! If you chose the other option, then keep reading!
    • If you sign up with an email, write your address and, for our purpose, click on the "at a school" option. Then, click on the “teacher” account option.
      • Now, you have to provide some information: your title (Ms., Mr., Mrs., etc), your first and last name, and to create a password (unlike other sites, it is not necessary that your password contains a cap letter and a number).
      • Finally, click on “continue” to finish creating your account. That's it! Your screen should be showing Quizizz's home page and giving you the welcome!

If you want to know how to perform any kind of task in this app, or you have any question, you can leave a comment! See you around!
